After engaging in an unprecedented war of words between the North Korean Leader, Kim, and United States President, Trump, for months, passing on comments like “little rocket man,” “short and fat”, a “madman”, (to Kim), “mentally deranged dotard (senile person) deserving the death penalty”, (to Trump) and threatening the other to wipe off other’s country from the Earth’s face, Trump said yesterday that he “absolutely” would hold phone talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Answering the questions from reporters at Camp David, at Maryland, Trump expressed a willingness to talk to Kim but not without some conditions which he did not specify.
“Sure, I always believe in talking,” Trump said, “Absolutely, I would do that. I have no problem with that at all.” stressing he would also “be very firm.”
Earlier in this week, Trump said he has a much bigger and more powerful nuclear button on his desk that “works”, in response to the Kim’s New Year’s address when Kim said he has a “nuclear button” on his office desk and warned that “the whole territory of the U.S. is within the range of our nuclear strike.”
Recently, North Korea and South Korea agreed to hold official talks in coming week, after more than two years.
Though the initial meeting agenda seems to be the possible participation of North Korea in Winter Olympics, but it can be thought to expand setting the standoff arose because of the North’s nuclear and missile test programs.
Taking the credit of this political breakthrough in form of North and South Korea negotiation, Trump tweeted last week, “Does anybody really believe that talks and dialogue would be going on between North and South Korea right now if I wasn’t firm, strong and willing to commit our total ‘might’ against the North.”
Mr Kim “knows I’m not messing around. I’m not messing around. Not even a little bit, not even one percent. He understands that,” said Mr Trump.
Evaluating the next week’s discussions between North and South Korea Trump said, “If something can come out of those talks, that would be a great thing for all of humanity, that would be a great thing for the world,”.
